Our swaddle blankets come in a variety of fabrics to ensure you have the right blanket for your environment and season. We offer high quality muslin, double napped USA flannel, whisper soft marquisette, and cotton muslin. Each of our blankets features our exclusive, easy, How to Swaddle, step by step pictorial guide sewn to the blanket's edge, so you have swaddling instructions at your fingertips. Parents tell us all the time how helpful the 123 Swaddle tag is when they were learning how to swaddle, and they found it to be a great reminder in the middle of the night. Grandparents and experienced parents, too, tell us that our helpful label is a nice refresher in the art of swaddling.
SwaddleDesigns offers a wonderful selection of colors and prints. All of our exclusive prints are hand sketched or painted by our founder, Lynette Damir, RN and mom of two. Our blankets feature beautiful details and soul warming colors, hand painted watercolors and modern geometrics to welcome new babies with joy.
Our swaddle blankets are long lasting and have many uses beyond swaddling. For example, they can be used as a playmat for tummy time, over the parent's shoulder as a burp cloth, as a sun shield, as a coverlet in the stroller or on a toddler's bed, and as a privacy throw when feeding baby. And our blankets often become baby's favorite cuddle blanket as they become toddlers.
The Ultimate Swaddle Blanket is made from cotton Flannel and is an appropriate blanket for moderate to cooler environments.
Muslin and Marquisette are open weave fabrics appropriate for swaddling in warmer environments or summer swaddling.
At SwaddleDesigns, you will find the softest Flannels, Muslins, and Marquisette swaddling blankets for newborns. All of our blankets are lightweight, breathable and sized for effective swaddling.
Typical receiving blankets are too small for swaddling. The receiving blankets that are used in the hospital to swaddle your baby are quite small and are really only good for swaddling a just-born baby or a baby for a few days. Receiving blankets, in addition to being too small for swaddling past a few days, are rectangular in shape which makes it difficult for new parents to make a good secure swaddle. The best blankets for swaddling, such as SwaddleDesigns swaddles, are square in shape and large enough to swaddle baby for the first several months or until baby shows signs of rolling over. They should also be lightweight and breathable, yet warm. Multipacks of inexpensive small receiving blankets are not a good investment because baby will quickly outgrow the receiving blankets.
A swaddle blanket should be no less than 42” x 42” in size and square in shape to make it easy to swaddle, and have enough fabric to tuck into itself to secure. The swaddle blanket should be no larger than 47” x 47” since you do not want too much extra fabric, which would make it difficult to handle, and make the folds or wrapping steps of a good secure swaddle difficult to do.
No, a large swaddle blanket should not be used as a crib sheet, because it could become untucked and become an entanglement hazard. Only use a fitted crib sheet such a SwaddleDesigns Fitted Flannel Crib sheet or a SwaddleDesigns Muslin Fitted Crib sheet. Crib sheets have sewn corners and elastic to hold the sheet snugly and secure to the mattress.
Moms love SwaddleDesigns!
"The blanket is really attractive, wonderful to touch and intuitive to use. The dimensions are perfect - all the corners and edges fell neatly into place as I was following the steps on the tip tag!"
