Plush Dot Baby Lovies

Baby Lovie is a small security blankie or “Lovey.” Hand-crafted using soft, silky, premium fabrics, and made with love for the little one you love. The AAP states security objects such as blankets are part of the emotional support system every child needs in their early years.

Babies love touching the silky softness and soft bumpy textures of our Baby Lovies. Pediatricians and child development experts recommend a child 8 months and older be given a security object. Also known as transitional objects, loveys bring comfort, familiarity and help children calm and self soothe. When parents keep Baby Lovie close to their skin for several hours, it will absorb parent's scent which will help baby bond with this sweet security blankie.

How big are the Baby Lovies?

SwaddleDesigns Baby Lovies are small blankies at 14” x14”. Perfectly sized for little hands, and for travel.

What is a Transitional Object?

Also known as a security object, lovey or attachment object, these items offer emotional support for children in their early years. They smell and feel familiar. They have comforting textures that little fingers love, and  bring comfort to a child who is tired, upset or overwhelmed.

How does the Baby Lovie security object work?

As a first step wash and dry the Lovie. Then parents can wear the Lovie by tucking it in their shirt or sleep with it themselves. The fabric will pick up the scent of the parent and help baby to bond with it. When a child is upset or overwhelmed or some place new or traveling, the lovey smells like home and it brings them comfort and everything feels ok. We find that teens and adults like the cuddly, soft, soothing texture of our Lovies, too!

Does a security object build confidence or dependence?

Lovies help children make the emotional transition from dependence to independence. The use of security objects is not a sign of weakness or insecurity, so there is no reason to keep your child from using one. In fact, a transitional or security object can be so very helpful to parents and babies.

Having duplicate loveys is a good idea. Rotate them often so they get used evenly. Always a good idea to have more than one Baby Lovie so when one is in the wash, the other can be used. Or if heaven forbid, one gets lost you can pull out the spare. Can’t tell you how many parents have told us they wished they had listened to this advice!

Our Baby Lovies are a recommended soothing and transitional object, and a recommended travel blankie or lovey.

Please note that the AAP strongly recommends waiting until the child is at least 12 months old before introducing the lovey into the crib for sleep since the crib should be free of all loose objects for younger babies. Baby Lovies can be introduced as early as 6 months for supervised play, and used for emotional support and reassurance during new experiences and when in new environments.
